The Northern Berks Regional Police Department provides police services to Maidencreek
Township, Ontelaunee Township and Leesport Borough.  Regionalization has proven to be a
cost effect way to provide efficient police services to three communities.

On May 1, 1991 the Maidencreek/Ontelaunee Joint Police Department was created and
immediately became a success story for both municipalities.  On January 1, 1998, Leesport
Borough Police Department and Maidencreek/Ontelaunee Joint Police Department
consolidated, forming the Northern Berks Regional Police Department.    The consolidation has
allowed the department to provide special services to all three communities, while still
maintaining protection to all residential, commercial and industrial areas.  The department
currently maintains a roster of thirteen full time uniformed officers protecting approximately 9500
residents and patrol approximately 75 square miles of roadway.
