Maidencreek Township was established in December of 1746
and was named after the creek that runs diagonally through the
township. Quakers originally settled the area in 1732 and lived
peacefully among the Lenni Lenape Indians. Around 1800, the
Quakers began to move west and their farms and homesteads
were purchased by Germans. Later the Scots, Welsh and Irish
settled in the area but for the next 100 years, "Pennsylvania
Dutch" was the predominate language spoken in the township.
Four out of five people were farmers and were very industrious
and religious.
Today Maidencreek Township is a second class township with
an area of 14.8 square miles. The township consists of the
Village of Blandon, Evansville, Maidencreek and Molltown is
part of the Fleetwood Area School District. The late 1980's saw
the beginning of major growth in the Blandon Area and the
2000 U.S. Census population is 6,553 people.
