We received notice that a mosquito sample collected in Maidencreek Township has tested positive for West Nile Virus.
The county mosquito team will continue to conduct extra larval and adult mosquito surveillance to help diminish the potential spread of West Nile.
The risk of West Nile transmission is still fairly low, but if continued virus activity is detected, it may become necessary to conduct an adult control in the affected area. I am encouraging residents to take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours “Dusk to Dawn”
- Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes if possible. Exposed skin may be at risk for biting mosquitoes.
- Wear bug spray. Specifically bug spray containing at least 30% DEET.
- Remove all standing water from your property, birdbaths, wheelbarrows, children’s toys etc. can hold water which can breed mosquitoes.
- ANY water standing for more than 4 days can begin to breed mosquitoes.
